by | Feb 12, 2021 | The Health Made Simple Show

In this episode, we go over the three health personalities and how each one approaches their health. The first personality type is Follower Fred, the second is Mediocre Mike, and the last one is Harry the Hero.

Dr. Bart and Karen describe how each personality will fare in 2021 with regards to the coronavirus and vaccines. We also highlight the importance of being clear about what we want and not fearing the uncomfortable.

Everyone has some aspects of each personality type, and it’s important to acknowledge them so we can grow.

Know which “person” is steering the wheel of your health decisions and take deliberate action!

Why Health Personalities?

At a leadership summit, Dr. Bart was asked to speak about what we learned about health in 2020.

We learned that health is our most important asset in the world, but the actions for health are not there. Health in 2021 is not going to slow down. Members at the World Health Organization already have plans in place through 2028.

Using the model of health personalities, you can cultivate awareness of how you and your loved ones approach health so you know what areas you need to grow in.

Follower Fred

One key characteristic of Follow Fred is that he believes that things just happen to him. For example, if Fred has high-blood pressure and goes to the doctor, he thinks this condition just happened to him.

Those with the Follower Fred personality type also don’t have strategic plans for their health. You can find Fred at a fast-food restaurant because he doesn’t connect his health with what he puts into his body.

Follower Fred doesn’t take accountability for his actions and doesn’t acknowledge the impact his actions have on his health. He is also very fearful.

We all have a little bit of Follower Fred in us. We’ve all been there and blamed a certain health condition of ours on someone else. For example, have you ever blamed getting sick on the person next to who coughed?

The truth is, you got sick because your body, at that moment, wasn’t able to fight off the germs.

That result is on you and your health actions. Follower Fred doesn’t take action for his health until he already has the disease. Sadly, the majority of our country goes about their health with a Follower Fred mentality.

In the United States, we consume about forty percent of the world’s drugs when we have less than five percent of the world’s population.

If this news is starting to sting, it’s okay! Most of you who follow this show aren’t Follower Freds, but it’s important to acknowledge the places within us that do blame things on others and use that knowledge to level-up.

Mediocre Mike

A defining characteristic of Mediocre Mike is that he does not want to get uncomfortable.

Mediocre Mike is very intelligent. This personality type looks into health data via books, websites, and podcasts. He or she knows what health strategies would help them thrive, but they’re not taking the actions.

Mediocre Mike will tell you about all the things he used to be able to do, and he’ll list all his health issues. He does this to get the person in front of him to buy into the excuses of why Mediocre Mike isn’t the best version of himself.

Mediocre Mikes will commit to eating healthy but will joke that they aren’t giving up their ice cream or sugars.

Mediocre Mike doesn’t have boundless energy for his family and things that are important to him, and he has excuses as to why.

He starts to shift his energy into things like business, and he uses that as an excuse for not putting his energy into his health.

Again, we all have some of Mike in us. We all have a big deck of excuses. Once Mediocre Mike has said the excuses enough, he sadly starts to believe them.

One tragedy about those who identify with this personality type is that they believe that their best has passed them. However, if you choose to get uncomfortable and ignite your motivation, you’ll realize that your best is still yet to come.

You can be more than you were yesterday.

To truly transform this mindset, you have to be creative and willing to get uncomfortable to progress further.

One of the biggest challenges that we face in this role is that we need people to keep us accountable.

Harry the Hero

Tom Brady exemplifies someone with a Harry the Hero health personality type. He is getting better with age. What makes him so great is not that he got better at throwing the football, but that he focused on all aspects of his health. About ten years ago he switched to a plant-based diet, which was focused on reducing inflammation so he could recover quickly.

It all starts with a belief. You have to believe that you have control over your health, but most importantly you have to want it.

Whether it’s running a marathon or being the best father you can be, wanting a goal is entirely different than not wanting to be sick.

Harry the Hero isn’t necessarily the brightest dude in the game, but he’s the clearest about what he wants to achieve.

People with this health personality realize that everything is at risk without their health. When Harry the Hero makes tough decisions, he focuses on the bigger picture and doesn’t let the small things interfere.

He knows when you put in the effort to nourish yourself, you’re able to live to your full potential with passion, energy, and love.

Dying with COVID v. Dying of COVID

If you have a preexisting condition, like heart disease, and contracting COVID causes a heart attack, then you’re marked down as dying because of COVID.

However, with this disease, your health was already going downhill and the heart attack is what, unfortunately, was the last straw.

For many people, COVID ushered in an untimely death, but the cause of their death started decades ago. Things like heart disease, obesity, and diabetes take a long time to build up. These people died with COVID because their bodies weren’t prepared to handle the virus.

At some point, life will eventually “punch you in the face.” This expression means you may get into a car accident, get injured, catch a cold, etc. However, there’s a big difference between causation and correlation.

Understanding how these preexisting conditions correlate with COVID fatalities will help us build our own health strategies.

If you know you have a preexisting condition, you should start to ask questions.

In 2021, the vaccines and pandemic aren’t going away. So, if you or someone you love falls mainly into the Follower Fred or Mediocre Mike personality type, it’s time to level-up.

How to Level-Up Your Health to Harry the Hero

Start by asking yourself if you’re the best version of you.

Being your best self is about getting your life to be more congruent. What would that version look like? What would she talk like? What kind of energy would she have? How often would she play? What kind of vacations would she take?

Intimately get to know who that best version of you is.

You also need to find your accountability.

Leveling Up for COVID

If you have a history of heart disease…

You absolutely should be taking more B Vitamins. They have to be whole food vitamins.

Three things you have to improve: sleep, sugar, and stress.

Learn to manage those three things. Devise a strategy to win.

If you have diabetes and/or obesity…

Start by managing your sugar.

If you need a nutritional consultation, Dr. Bart would love to help you live your best life. He can do virtual consultations with you wherever you are!

Questions from the audience:

Why does the vaccine shot hurt my arm?

This is an awesome thing to question. Most people might just accept it rather than trying to understand what’s going on. We’re putting a toxin in the body, and it immediately kills cells.

It becomes a neurotoxin to the nerves. When we kill cells off, it changes the pH and creates inflammation and that’s where the pain comes from. The inflammation creates pressure on the nerves, and you may get a numb arm.

>> Vaccine Readiness on Episode 36 on the Health Made Simple Show.

Why is the second vaccine shot worse?

It hurts more the second time because our bodies have become more toxic. If you put a toxin into your body, and you’re already toxic, you’re going to create more inflammation in the body.

It can be too much for your body to handle. Between your first and second shots, you should be leveling up your health and detoxing.

What is one action we can take today after this episode?

We must give ourselves permission. We have to give ourselves permission to go all in, to fail, to get uncomfortable, and to want to be the best versions of ourselves.
