Weekly Clinical Insights:
To set the stage for this week’s discussion, Dr. Bart Parcourt shares some of the practical examples he has recently seen in his clinic this past week.
Example 1:
A 58-year-old female patient originally came to the clinic looking to make some lifestyle changes and feel better. She eventually became completely gluten and alcohol free, and was feeling great . Despite the fact that she was feeling great after making these changes, her spouse didn’t want to join in. Desperately wanting her husband to make the changes too, she came to the clinic for advice. Dr. Bart recommended that she just continue on living her best life, and those close to us will naturally be intrigued and follow. Now, her husband tracks their food intake and follows a gluten free diet more enthusiastically than she does!
The lesson? Do what’s best for YOU, and the people around you will see the positive changes and be inspired. The trickle effect is real!
Example 2:
A 69-year-old female patient was struggling with an essential tremor (i.e. a localized tremor that resembles Parkinson’s disease, but the root cause is not identifiable). Her medical doctor had prescribed a botox injection to two muscle groups (her trapezius and levator scapula muscles) to stop the nerve from firing (preventing muscle flexion). Unfortunately, the treatment did not go according to plan, and when she came into the clinic she had received too much Botox on one side, paralyzing her chin to her chest for 3-6 months. Knowing that she needed motor function and muscle support, Dr. Bart started her on a mineral enhancing protocol.
The insight? When it comes to “new” treatment protocols, always consider all of the potential side effects, especially when consuming cosmetic substances. While Botox is side-effect free the majority of the time, using it to treat medical conditions (while ignoring the root cause of the problems) can make things worse. Anytime you put a drug or pharmaceutical substance into your body, think critically before making the decision. Your body is designed to heal and preserve itself, so this story serves as a reminder to proceed with caution when you are putting foreign things in (including processed food!) or cutting things out (like during a surgical procedure), or even getting tattoos!
Ready to become superhuman?
Dr. Bart also discussed the main catalyst to becoming superhuman: fueling our bodies correctly. A large part of this is managing our weight.
There are four main actions required in losing weight:
1. You need to maintain a calorie deficit. Remember, the most important element is the TYPE of calorie you are consuming. 1000 calories of broccoli will benefit your body very differently than 100 calories of white bread. If you are consuming all of your calories from “god’s garden” (aka natural foods only) you will naturally maintain a healthier weight. All processed foods will affect your blood sugar in a more tumultuous way. Deficit does not have to mean restriction.
2. You need to exercise to lose weight, but it will only account for 10-20% of your total weight loss (assuming you are starting from zero). Your liver is responsible for digestion processes, but if you have overloaded it with toxins over time it will fall victim to the compound effect and will not work as efficiently. If your liver is too overloaded, exercise will put too much stress on the body. This is why it is essential to prioritize your diet above all else when wanting to lose weight.
3. Intermittent fasting gives your body the opportunity to regenerate between digestion processes. Don’t confuse this with a starvation diet (which will cause more damage than good), as you will still be eating an adequate amount of food (just at specific times). Fasting means you are taking strategic “timeouts” when your body needs to focus on other functions. It also helps you develop a healthier mental relationship with food, viewing as fuel, not as an emotional crutch or a codependent relationship.
4. Eat the right kind of carbs. Our bodies NEED carbs to survive and fuel our cells, so “no carb” fad diets can do more harm than good. Typically what people associate as “ carbs” are gluten-products (like breads, pastas, etc) but in reality, we need to be getting the carbs we need from fruits and vegetables instead. There is no history of any civilization across history that has ever denied an available food source (or followed “starvation” diets), but not a single staple diet (eg. paleo, mediterranean, etc.) have no PROCESSED foods.
Weight gain is an ultimate result of toxins entering the body. While different toxins affect everyone differently (gluten, alcohol, refined sugar, etc), you need to evaluate what is going into your body on a regular basis. Even antibiotics use, lack of sleep, etc can cause weight gain because of what else they ask of the body.
What is one step you can take NOW To becoming superhuman?
Lose weight by AVOIDING weight gain.
Use the powers within the body, and listen to it’s innate wisdom. Treat your body with respect, and it will reward you with a long and healthy life.
Want to start your weight loss journey today? Try cutting gluten out of your diet, and you’ll start to see positive changes almost immediately.
