4 Steps: How to Cleanse/Detox | Episode 130

by | Nov 30, 2022 | The Health Made Simple Show

Each year our clinic celebrates the New Year with our 30-day detox cleanse.

It’s the best opportunity to reset after 60 days of eating, drinking, and putting extra stress onto our bodies.

So this week on the Health Made Simple Show, we talk about all things detox, mindset, and becoming superhuman!

Watch the live show below:

Why do we need to detox?

Moving into 2023, humans have never been more exposed to harmful toxins than we are today.

From “cleaning” chemicals in the water we drink to shampoos and scented candles, to pesticides on the vegetables we eat, our bodies are constantly stuck in detox mode. This is putting a lot of unnecessary stress on your liver, kidneys, and digestive system (that could otherwise be helping your body in more productive ways).

When your body is exposed to ANY type of toxin, it increases the speed at which your body produces free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecular compounds that help protect your cells from toxic or foreign substances. The more toxins we are exposed to, the more free radicals our body produces, and too many can lead to chronic dysfunction over time.

When we detox our bodies, it means a few things:

  1. We are intentionally limiting (ideally eliminating) our exposure to toxic substances.
  2. We are replenishing the vitamins and minerals that are depleted during detoxification.
  3. We are giving our organs the opportunity to perform other essential functions uninterrupted.

The REAL right way to detox:

While there are many companies with detox juices, teas, and liquid diets are more on the market, a truly effective detox comes down to just 4 main steps:

  1. Eat whole foods only. Forget any food that comes in a package, and stick to 1 ingredient (natural) foods only. Avoid gluten, refined sugar, and other chemical-laden foods, as they do no favors for detoxification. Prioritize cruciferous vegetables when at all possible.
  2. Have the detox supplements you need ready to speed up the process. Sulfur and other trace minerals, B12, and amino acids are essential to enhancing your body’s ability to detox itself (as the disease is primarily your body’s inability to break down toxins fast enough)
  3. Support elimination processes. Toxins leave the body primarily through the intestines, so it is essential your digestion is running smoothly. If you remain chronically constipated for example, you are trapping those harmful toxins in, forcing them to be reabsorbed by your digestive tract. A whole-food diet also strongly supports healthy digestive processes.
  4. Ask yourself: “Is what I’m doing sustainable?” You will never be able to completely avoid events or “cheat opportunities” in life, so your detox needs to be sustainable enough to withstand these events. To be different, you have to become different. This means learning new recipes to cook healthy food at home, changing your meal-prep habits, and simply getting comfortable saying “no.”

Ready to get started?

When you start a 21-30 day cleanse, remember:

  • Days 2-5 will be the hardest days of your cleanse so stick to it. Don’t give up! Every day new habits will become easier.
  • Can’t commit to a full month of detox? A shorter time period is better than nothing, but it should be no less than 10 days minimum.
  • Avoid cleansing when you are pregnant. Follow a whole food diet, but avoid taking supplements intending to increase the speed at which your body is eliminating toxins. Instead, prioritize a whole-food diet, avoid toxins, and get enough sleep. Always consult with your doctor before changing your nutrition protocol while pregnant.

Clinical insights

This week in the clinic, we saw tons of real-life examples of patients using the top technique to become superhuman: Asking good questions.

“How can I cleanse my body to feel better?” “What is going right with me?” Training your brain to answer positive, conducive thoughts (instead of negative), will help you feel, move, and think better overall. In this week’s episode, you’ll hear about:

  • The young female suffering from chronic hip flexor tension, who couldn’t find the answer to “what’s wrong with me?” despite many complex tests.
  • The 80-year-old man who reversed his need for a pacemaker thanks to our aggressive cardio-support protocol.

No matter where you are at in your healing journey, consider treating your body to a 30-day detox this New Year’s. You couldn’t ask for a stronger way to ring in your best year yet!
