Is it even possible to eat healthy at a restaurant?
Dr. Bart shares his top 4 strategies to enjoying a good meal out without compromising your health goals:
1. Do some homework
When deciding on a place to eat, do a bit of research first. Keep your eyes out for organic food options, and give your business to the restaurants making the effort. Dr. Bart shares what chemicals you need to watch out for so you can make the best food choices you can.
2. Avoid canola oil at all costs.
Also referred to as “vegetable oil”, it’s used in almost every restaurant, it is responsible for liver disease more than alcohol is. Ask the restaurant if they are willing to cook your food in butter instead of their typical cooking oil.
3. Avoid gluten foods.
Gluten inhibits our absorption of several key minerals and is extremely inflammatory.
Luckily, gluten-free options are becoming increasingly popular in restaurants today, or stick to God’s Garden diet.
4. Watch out for condiments.
Soy sauce (for the Sushi lovers), ketchup, and corn syrup (in sodas) are all examples of the toxins that enter our system through the “fillers” of a meal like condiments and drinks. Stick to salt, pepper, and butter instead of mystery sauces or condiments.
Other tips:
Keeping our bodies feeling good after a meal out isn’t just about what goes in your mouth. Some other tips to keep your body happy after a meal out include:
- Avoid overeating. Put your fork down between bites, and remember it’s ok to take some home.
- Skip dessert. Get up and go for a walk instead and reap the digestive benefits.
- Keep the company the priority. Keep your focus on the people you’re out with, not the meal you ordered.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Your body will thank you.
