Asthma, NAC, And More! | Episode 87
This week’s clinical insight has to do with the cleanse and the hard work and commitment it takes to make it happen. I’ll often hear people say how good it’s going until some circumstance interrupts it, which often causes people to throw in the towel. This year, however, I’m seeing something totally different. We had several people get Covid in the middle of the cleanse and still keep going! Even the people who have commented how hard this year’s cleanse has been are inspiring because they’re still going. Sometimes we need to hear that other people are joining in our struggles but still persevering.
I’m a stress eater myself, so in order to experience that stress and stay on the cleanse takes a lot of fortitude. We often want that immediate dopamine from food, but sitting in that discomfort has so many benefits physically, spiritually, and emotionally. The ability to overcome is priceless! Sometimes things are hard and don’t go our way, but we don’t have time to wait for them to go our way. Practicing moving through it and getting to the other side is the quest we need to be looking for. If it’s not hard, it’s not worth it. Whether we’re looking to change our personal health or have an impact on the world, it’s going to take some effort!

1. Any suggestions on how to get off prescription allergy medication and fix my asthma?
I grew up with allergies and asthma so severe I had to be hospitalized as a child, so this is near and dear to my heart. Typically, this starts with the early use of antibiotics. We have to boost our immune system and decrease the amount of inflammation in the body. This starts with decreasing dairy and gluten. When we have too much of these, we have too much inflammation and a buildup of bacteria which sends us on a downward spiral. Early on, you may have an allergy to something, which fills up your sinuses and makes you become a mouth breather. The mouth is a much more open gate to the lungs than the nose, which is how you can create inflammation in the lungs and start asthma. Also, almost every asthma case I’ve seen is associated with anxiety in both children and adults. Because the inability to breathe is so terrifying, it can be traumatic to experience.
So, now we need to deal with all three, allergies, lung issues, and anxiety. First, we need to focus on our breath. Yoga can be a great way to train yourself to breathe through your nose. Next, we can use some supplements and nutrients to help change, but only if we go all in and really dedicate ourselves to the long haul. First, get a ton of sunlight. Part of the asthma is living in sympathetic dominance. Sunlight and the heat from the sun will produce Vitamin D, which is low in all asthma cases. You can use up to 20,000 IUs a day to get your levels back to where they need to be. Next, I use Antronex, which will help drain your histamine without being an antihistamine. It supports the liver’s normal detoxification mechanisms as well as the body’s natural immune system function. I’d also throw in some celery juice to start your day to give your liver an even better boost. For allergies, we use Allerplex which supports the body’s ability to handle seasonal, environmental, and dietary challenges and supports healthy lung and respiratory function.
If you’ve had chronic asthma, your lungs are likely getting a little stiff. I recommend at least 90 days worth of Pneumotrophin PMG, two at night and two in the morning. There’s also an herbal concoction called Pulmaco which is very supportive for healthy lung tissue. For some people, I have a liquid herbal blend that can be a little easier to take, especially in acute situations. You can contact Balance Health Studios at (850) 231-9288 or info@balance30a.com for either of these or a protocol of anything else we talk about. We also need to look at the state of the adrenal glands, especially if you’ve been on a steroid inhaler. That inhaler makes your adrenal glands very vulnerable, it will weaken your response to stress and make you more vulnerable to adrenal fatigue. This could be helped by taking Drenamin and reducing sugar. For the anxiety component, you can introduce Ashwagandha and Kava especially if you already have them in your tool kit.
Cold turkey is not always the best way to come off of an inhaler or allergy medication, you need to have a plan. When I got out of college I was broke and I didn’t have any health insurance and had to go cold turkey. It was around this time I started going to the chiropractor for the first time. I would find when I got adjusted, I would go out of sympathetic dominance and breathe better. I also started drinking water and flushing the histamines out of my system. Also during this time, someone finally told me that people with asthma need to stop consuming so much dairy. I did it the hard way, but it’s proof you can do it. The allergen isn’t as important as what you’re doing to improve your system.
2. What is NAC and do you have any suggestions for it?
NAC is N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, it comes from Cysteine which is one of the amino acids. It helps support the building and making of more antioxidants for the body. Milk Thistle works in a lot of the same ways to support the body. It is important that we think about oxidative stress and antioxidants. Oxidation is the process that turns bananas brown and it creates free radicals, which can be very damaging to the body. NAC can be helpful in clearing out the body by making glutathione, our number one antioxidant. You can get it in a supplement, or you can get Cysteine from your diet, from things like cruciferous vegetables, the same ones I tell you to be eating all the time! You can also use Spanish Black Radish, which you’re already getting if you’re on the cleanse right now.
3. Why do you think we don’t celebrate our health wins more?
Conditioning. If I meet a random person on the street and tell them I’m a doctor, they can easily rip off a list of their entire life’s worth of diagnoses. We’re good at it. The moment I ask them what’s right with them… they don’t know what to say. We haven’t been encouraged to celebrate these wonderful God-given bodies. We are so conditioned not to celebrate that we forget how wonderful and contagious it can be to allow ourselves to celebrate. Stop for a minute and think about what’s awesome with you today.
And last but not least, this week’s action to become superhuman is…
Get Tougher.
Emotionally, physically, in every way, get tougher, and don’t be afraid of conquering tough things!
I also talked about a protocol for allergies and asthma that includes Vitamin D, Antronex, Allerplex, Pneumotrophin PMG, and Pulmaco, which you can get a protocol for if you contact Balance Health Studios at (850) 231-9288 or info@balance30a.com. I also recommended Drenamin to strengthen your adrenal glands.
