Gut Health, Weight Loss And More! | Episode 79
I’m starting this week with a little “clinical insight”, things I’ve picked up working with patients recently. Today, my insight is that we need more patience to hear. I saw someone today that I saw last Tuesday. I had her adjusted last week and when she came back to see me, she said “There must be something else wrong” and told me she had already scheduled an ultrasound and an MRI. I was a little befuddled and asked her if her adjustment helped. She said it had, but it seemed that she was surprised that a single visit hadn’t totally repaired a lifetime worth of back trouble. I covered some simple questions about her health and offered some suggestions about ways she could improve her overall health.
One of the most dangerous things you can do is make emotional decisions about your health.
I had another patient come in, a high level jiu jitsu athlete who has an issue with his back. He was worried he would have to stop training, an activity he does 8-10 times a week! But it’s not even the amount of training that was causing trouble, it’s the balance. If you’re asking that much of your body, are you giving back to it?
He had gotten into his head and was going to make a health decision based on his negative thoughts.
The third case I saw was a young woman, who was also very into exercise and training. Now, there’s nothing wrong with exercising to look better, but it’s always secondary to feeling better. So, when we’re working out solely for vanity, we’re not necessarily in the right headspace. She was training ruthlessly on her body, but not giving her body the patience and love it needed.

This doesn’t just apply to training injuries either! It could be a sinus infection, the flu, COVID, or some other medical issue that gets us into “Poor me” territory. Why do we do this to ourselves?
- We have unfair expectations. The vitamin you took yesterday may not heal all your issues today! Addressing the root causes of your issues is a much longer term process than just bandaging symptoms.
- We’ve become wimpy. No one is willing to sit in their pain and allow it to be a learning experience. We’ve been told we shouldn’t be in physical, mental, or emotional pain even for a moment that we don’t give ourselves time to feel.
- We don’t know our tribes. You need to know when you’re on the edge of bad health decisions, who can talk you off the ledge. Our tribe needs to hold us accountable and help be our rock. Who’s the rock in your life?
Now, let’s dig into these questions.
1. What do ridges on my fingernails mean?
Fingernails tell us a lot about health, especially gut health. When you think ridges, think B12 and iron. Clubbed nails make us think of liver health. Dots on the nails make us think of zinc or potentially insulin resistance if they’re larger and blotchy. Brittle nails tell us about gut health issues. If your gut health is out of balance it’s not making B Vitamins or processing them correctly. Cataplex B can help with that.
2. What should I do for hair loss after having Covid?
A lot of the post-Covid issues need you to cleanse. Covid is fighting a war with your body and that war leaves debris. Hair cells are very finicky and respond to stress anyway, so combining those things can leave your hair in bad shape. The good news is, we can restore it! We’re doing our cleanse in January, join us HERE! This is a great way to restart and get your body ready for the best year of your life.
3. An 18-year-old family member recently got released from the hospital having mono. What supplements would be best for her?
This is where we would go to the stealth pathogen protocol, which you can get by contacting my office at 850.231.9288 or info@balance30a.com. The longer that virus lives in the body, the more it learns about how to hide from your white blood cells. If they’re getting out of the hospital, they’ve been on antibiotics, so they’ll need Zymex. They’ll also need a tribe to keep them away from the carbs and sugar and back on the animal proteins.
4. My daughter had a partial thyroidectomy because of a mass. What can she do to help with regular thyroid function?
She’ll probably need a good 30 days to see what’s happening with the gland, then run some tests to see how the thyroid is functioning. From there, you can analyze what will be best. They can immediately start Thytrophin PMG to help mitigate the damage.
5. After exercise and too much walking, I get cramps in my toes and calves. What can I do?
Make sure your shoes aren’t too tight. Your toes are the furthest from your heart, so make sure you’re stretching to increase blood flow. Make sure you’re getting your magnesium and you can take Cataplex G, reach out to the office for dosing.
6. How do you find out the correct amount of protein to consume in a day?
There’s no one answer for that. If you’re near the office, you can come in and we have a machine that will help give your lean body mass. Take that number, divide it by two, that would be a benchmark for daily grams. If you train really hard some days, you may want to double that. Excess protein is hard to break down, so you don’t want too much, because it will convert to sugar in the liver.
