Healthy For The Holidays | Episode 26
This week on the Health Made Simple Show, I share tips to stay healthy during the holidays. This holiday season is probably going to be different for all of us due to Covid. We are also entering flu season: It is colder and darker, everything a virus loves.
Watch the live show below:
The best strategy for staying healthy during the holidays is to have the right supplements on hand. I love to recommend the digestive enzyme, Zypan. With thanksgiving coming, we are probably going to overeat. Zypan is a game changer during the holidays because it helps break down food faster which gives the gut a massive break.
I also recommend Hydrochloric acid to stimulate your immune system and produce more white blood cells. A lot of people get colds and illnesses throughout the holidays, and a lot of it is a consequence of overeating. Congaplex supports healthy immune system function. Think about this product as all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to feed the immune system. I also recommend Andrographis Complex which is made out of three different herbs, and it will activate your blood cells. Half of the challenge of being healthy is awareness. You need to have these products in your cabinet and use them as soon as you get symptoms of illness. The faster you take them, the faster the symptoms will go away.
Sugar also impacts out immune system. Thirty minutes after you consume sugar and up to five hours after, you will decrease your white blood cell response by 50%. If we are constantly eating sugar, we are impeding the white blood cells. The sugar interferes with our immune systems, and prevents it from knowing where the bad guys are in the body, so the white blood cells do not get to invaders properly. When you consume sugar, you neutralize the white blood cells even though your white blood cell count may be normal. You also reduce what is called the innate immune system. Just a little slice of pecan pie has approximately 45 to 50 grams of sugar.
Sugar also changes the amount of oxygen in the cells and this is why people with diabetes have the highest mortality rate when it comes to covid. Eating more sugar makes you more vulnerable to other things going on in your body. Honey is a better alternative to sugar as it doesn’t break down as fast as regular sugar.
Choose differently this year. Let this year be the year you choose an organic turkey and organic vegetables. Make gluten-free stuffing and organic potatoes. It is possible to do an organic thanksgiving. You could also limit the alcohol that you are drinking or choose to have just your absolute favorite dessert instead of eating all of them. The average person in the United States gains between 5 and 7 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years’ Eve. In addition, at least 50% of people are not losing the extra weight after the holidays.
There is nothing more effective and powerful for your entire metabolic system than managing your blood sugar. If you already indulged, if you had a big meal, I recommend you to fast the next day and skip breakfast. The more you eat, the more you want to eat, so you have to have that emotional fitness, that mental discipline. The next morning, when waking up, go for a walk and skip breakfast.
The number one day of the year for a heart attack in our country is Christmas Eve. Second, is Christmas Day. Number three is New Year’s Day, and number four is thanksgiving. The combination of overeating, alcohol, poor sleep, and stress puts us in our graves.
I will also recommend starting your day off with some level of gratitude. It would be a game changer for everyone to manage stress during the holidays. Three minutes of gratitude and meditation each day can change the biochemistry of the brain. The dopamine rush and the serotonin is incredible for the body’s physiology.
