IBS & IBD – What are they and how do we fix it? | Episode 59
And I am not here to say I can cure it, but I can say that we can forget our past, and we don’t have to live with our past moving forward. We can learn from it and do our best to fix it up, nurture it and then move forward.
Almost everyone has a gut issue and my goal here is to create more awareness about our gut health.
Watch the live show below:
IBS
It’s a very generic diagnosis, but a lot of people have it. One of the most common things that happen is frequent diarrhea, and it also often comes with fatigue and bloating. It really just is an imbalance of your gut flora.
This, too, means there is something wrong with the gut. That situation often leads to more serious conditions. An interesting thing about IBS is that people who lean towards anxiety tend to have it more likely. When we are in a state of anxiety, our smooth muscles also bind up, and that’s the interference.
There are three primary causes for IBS:
1. Allergies
2. Intolerance
3. Imbalance
So if you have an allergy to a food, it actually means you are allergic to a type of protein. Allergies are always connected to protein. Food sensitivities, though, can be to anything. It means your body had too much of one thing.
Imbalances can happen in a couple of different ways. One of them is that we are eating the same foods over and over again. And I think we all do that to some degree.
That’s one of the fastest ways to create nutrient imbalances. Even faster, we create an imbalance when we lean to carbohydrates and sugar and stop eating our veggies. Then we don’t have a good environment for creating a healthy gut flora. Now we have an imbalance, and any food can irritate us.
What can we do about it?
Number one here is intermittent fasting! It’s what your body wants and what your body needs! Intermittent fasting is a massive tool when it comes to gut health. Your gut needs a time out and recovery. This strategy increases new stem cell activity.
See it as a little scratch in your gut, and your body is trying to heal it and tries to put layers of skin on it, but you constantly put food inside and keep scraping it right back of so your gut doesn’t get the chance to repair itself.
The body still will continue to send the tissue to that area to heal that wound. If you keep scraping it off, the body says you need more protection and sends more and more scar tissue. That scar tissue now binds up the intestines, something that is supposed to be very soft and smooth with a lot of mobility, but now it’s becoming rigid. That scar tissue can actually crack, and there the pain comes.
In a nutshell, the IBS, so the allergies, the imbalances and so on getting chronic enough to start all these diseases like Crohn’s and Colitis.
IBS strategies
Intermittent fasting and Hydrochloric acid will work wonders. My favourite here is Zypan, which has a huge impact on supporting digestive function. I also highly recommend Black Spanish radish. That is a supplement we use to clear and reak out, which is super healthy. Also, cruciferous vegetables! But be mindful because they have a lot of fibre.
IBD strategies
Definitely intermittent fasting here as well but no Hydrochloric acid! Because it’s acid, and we most likely have open wounds, and acid in an open wound can create discomfort.
The number one supplement for IBD is Chlorophyll Complex, which is pretty much plants blood! This will help heal the stomach lining. So the intermittent fasten and Chlorophyll Complex will do wonders here and heal you up. We also need a significant amount of vitamin d because we are no longer absorbing it.
There is a list here of things that you have to stay away from for a while.
– fibre, especially the cruciferous vegetables because they are the hardest to break down and therefore very tough on the intestines.
– gluten
– dairy
– sugar
and now we are adding fermented food to our diet because they are already half-digested for us. Also, adding collagen to our coffee every morning is going to help a lot. Same as zink as it helps us heal up wounds, especially on the intestinal lining.
It doesn’t mean forever, but we are dealing with a specific condition.
Questions from the Audience
How does diverticulitis play into these other bowel syndromes?
We are talking about an inflammatory process in the diverticula. So diet-wise, we are more in the IBD area that means no nuts, seeds, popcorn. I would lean more in the direction of good healthy fats, collagen and proteins that are easy to break down. Also Tumeric Forte
What is one action that we can take today after this episode to move us toward becoming superhuman?
One of my personal lessons was to not always be my own doctor. There are times when we should lay down the sword and just receive.
Be well educated and motivated. That’s awesome, but at times when you are not well, let go and let someone else take over and listen. That’s sometimes what holds us back from healing, our own stubbornness. Let yourself get some help in these scenarios, and don’t be your own doctor all the time.
