LIVE Q&A: Dr. Bart + Karen | Episode 69
We’re back on the Health Made Simple show with another week of answering your questions. This week we have several questions focused on the adrenal glands and energy, but we also cover topics ranging from gout to pet allergies. Let’s get started.
Watch the live show below:
1.- What can I do to get more energy?
When we talk about the concept of energy, we can relate it to the ancient Chinese understanding of chi, bringing everything into balance. We’re all born with a certain amount of energy and we spend our days breathing in and out that energy. One of the biggest problems we face is that we are wasting energy too frequently. The bad thoughts we entertain, the fear, the anger, and even the negative people in our lives can be like vampires for our energy. Simply put, one of the best ways to have more energy is to stop giving it up.
Gaining energy, however, is about repairing your body and putting the right food and supplements in to restore the energy we’re losing. If your gut is imbalanced, it’s going to be hard to have any true vitality. When your adrenal glands get tired, your body prevents you from having enough energy to do them any more harm. Remember, your body is always on your side, if you’re feeling tired and run down, there’s a reason!
2.- What can I do if I have adrenal fatigue or dysfunction?
The adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys. They’re responsible for helping you manage your life. They regulate blood pressure, adjust your blood glucose levels, and help us manage stress. They also produce cortisol which, in the short term, can be an anti-inflammatory and trigger the fight or flight response. If we’re overusing the adrenal glands and constantly producing cortisol, your adrenals get tired.
Two good indications of adrenal problems are waking up after a full night’s sleep and still feeling tired or waking up tired and getting a strong second wind at midday that makes it harder to fall asleep. We do have an at-home functional saliva test you can request by contacting our office at 850.231.9288 or info@balance30a.com
The bottom line, though, is that you can’t outrun tired adrenal glands. You have got to get some sleep. Without it, you could end up with issues in your blood pressure or blood glucose. For supplements, Adrenal Desiccated is an overall blend that will strongly support your endocrine system. Drenamin is a blend that includes Vitamins C and D that will support healthy adrenal function. In addition, you can contact my office for our Korean Ginseng tonic and other tonics not available on the website.
3.- Lately, I’ve been getting up in the wee hours of the morning. Is it because of what’s on my mind or could it be something else?
We never wake up because of the thoughts in our mind, because we’re asleep. You may return to the predominant thought you had the night before, but that’s not what’s waking you up. If you’re waking up between 2am and 4am, it could be a liver issue. Later than that could be gallbladder or blood sugar issues. Start by improving your bedtime routine and see if that helps or if it adjusts your wake-up times. It’s always a good idea to add more magnesium to your diet to help you stay asleep longer.
4.- Is there a good lab test for magnesium?
Not really. It does show up in some labs, but it’s not a good overall marker. The truth is, we could all use more magnesium in our bodies. I use a product called Magnesium Lactate, it’s the most bio-available version of magnesium and it’s gentle on your body so you don’t need as much.
5.- How do you treat the onset of gout?
Too often meat gets the blame for gout, but it’s really the body’s inability to break down meat, specifically the kidneys, that is causing the problem. Intermittent fasting is key because it rehabs the digestive system. In the short term, cleaning up your diet and staying away from meat, remembering that it’s not a meat issue, it’s a digestive issue. Phosfood Liquid (20 drops in warm water once or twice a day) will help with cleaning up your gut health. Remember, if you have a history, you’re vulnerable for a comeback, so stay vigilant.
6.- My husband is 62 years old and has a lipoma on his neck, what is the cause and how can I get rid of it?
I don’t really have enough detail to make any specific suggestions, but a lipoma is your body trying to get rid of something. For more specific help, it probably needs to be looked at by a dermatologist. If it’s a fatty tissue, there’s not much you can do about it, I don’t usually recommend having them removed. If you contact my office, we can always do a zoom call to discuss it further.
7.- It might sound crazy but a watch battery that should last a year goes dead in a few weeks on me, this happens often. People often tell me they feel energized by me but I feel drained. Why is this?
We are all energy sources and we all have our own energy fields, there’s nothing wrong or right about it. You may need to pay special attention to where your energy is going. Some people’s energies will coordinate better with yours than others.
8.- Is someone with 6 lumbar vertebrae more susceptible to back injuries?
You might think so, but no. You’re just special!
9.- If someone is vaccinated but regretting it, how can they clean their system?
I would suggest getting extremely clean. Incorporate intermittent fasting UNLESS you’re symptomatic. In that case, you need to feel better and get stable first. Milk Thistle Forte is my number one recommendation for concentrated liver support. LivCo contains herbs including Schisandra which is integral in eliminating toxins. Take 6 Turmeric Forte a day and don’t forget your Cod Liver Oil. If you have access to an infrared sauna, that would also help. To really take it to the next level, do the ten-day cleanse to give your digestive system a break and upgrade it. Psychologically, it’s important that we don’t spend our time regretting things but learning from them.
10.- Have you seen anyone with adverse vaccine reactions?
Yes, I have, but it’s not a subject I talk about much. The truth is, too many people are making their decisions out of fear and too many people are encouraging those fear-based reactions. We’re having good results in most cases, but some are tougher than others. The most important thing is, regardless of choice, to make yourself stronger. Take the time you need to make a good decision and use the time as your friend.
11.- Which Vitamin C supplement do you recommend?
This is a good question because they are NOT all the same. I recommend Cataplex C, it’s a full enzyme Vitamin C, which will activate and support your immune system better than just ascorbic acid.
12.- I’m allergic to dogs, what can I do?
I grew up severely allergic to dogs and the allergies would be so bad they would trigger asthma. In fact, I woke up several times in the hospital after being unable to breathe. Now, I always have dogs around me when I’m recording the show, I’m living proof there are things you can do. First, you need to get clean. The biggest change you can make is to drink water and become better hydrated. If possible, take a 30-60 day timeout from the animals. This will turn your alarms off and help your body handle them in small doses. You can take Allerplex which will support your immune system. What most people fail to realize is that you can also help clean up the dog’s diet. A clean dog is less allergenic and a clean eating dog on a raw diet is less likely to trigger allergies. This will also help the dog’s skin be less oily and with less dander.
We’ll conclude with this week’s action we can take to become superhuman.
Protect Your Energy
We need to be much more aware of where our energy is going. The more energy we waste on unnecessary things, the less we have for the things that matter. We don’t blame other’s, we need to take responsibility for our own energy. When we pay attention to where it’s coming from and where it’s going, we can have more energy for the things we want to devote energy to.
