LIVE Q&A: Your Health Questions Answered | Episode 67

by | Aug 30, 2021 | The Health Made Simple Show

We’re back with another batch of your questions answered by Dr. Bart, touching on everything from Dementia to Hives to Covid. Let’s get started!

Watch the live show below:

1.- Do you have any thoughts on IV Bars for Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc?

They can be good for your health but they’re not long term options. The Vitamin C you get at an IV Bar is just ascorbic acid, which isn’t the complete enzyme of Vitamin C. If you want the complete enzyme to be an effective watchdog for your cells, you need Cataplex C. An IV Bar can be helpful in certain situations but not as a replacement. Since Vitamin C and Zinc are inefficiently stored by the body, they’re not good options at an IV Bar since you’d need them everyday which would become very expensive. Vitamin D would be a much more effective choice since it holds on longer.

2.- What are your opinions on a ketogenic diet and exogenous ketone supplements from brain health?

Your body needs to learn to burn fats for fuel, not just carbs and sugar. In order to teach the body to do that, you need to get rid of the carbs and sugars. When your body learns to burn fat, it produces ketones which are rocket fuel for the brain, they light it up and make it more effective. A ketogenic diet is good, but you need to ensure you are actually producing ketones. Monitoring your blood glucose to make sure it’s going down and your ketones to make sure they’re going up is essential to understanding your health.

We don’t currently have a way to reverse dementia, but having a clean fuel source like ketones to burn can be an effective way to stop dementia and sustain your current brain health. Exogenous ketones will light your brain up, but it is not the same as producing them yourself. It’s only effective as a short term solution, because it will not put your body in ketosis. If you use them as kindling to light the fire for someone who’s all in on a clean ketogenic diet that will produce the ketones, it can be helpful. However, be careful, because it will be harder to track whether or not you’re actually in ketosis.

3.- Does Prevagen help for Alzheimer’s?

I’m not very familiar with Prevagen, but I will say that microcirculation is a very effective tool for helping the brain, Ginkgo being one of the best for that. Also, keep feeding the brain fats, as we previously discussed, in the form of things like cod liver oil and coconut oil.

4.- How do you feel about stevia?

It’s better than sugar, certainly, but I’m not a huge fan because it doesn’t get us away from sugar cravings and it doesn’t enrich our taste buds. We can’t just listen to sweet, we need a whole palate of salty, bitter, sour, etc. to help train the brain to ask for things that aren’t just sweet, even if the sugar is a substitute.

5.- Is there a gingko product you recommend?

Ginkgo Forte is a great product to provide memory, cognition and circulatory support for healthy mental aging. In addition, you can contact my office for a product we put together called Brain Tonic, which you can take a shot of when you need to be especially clear. You can contact us at 850-231-9288 or email at info@balance30a.com.

6.- Do you know Cognitex?

I don’t know it specifically, but anytime you get a supplement, it’s important to look at the ingredients. If there’s no ingredients listed… that’s a bad sign. You need to watch out for synthetics, which can sometimes even pull nutrients from the body and cause deficiencies. That’s why whole food supplements are always better.

7.- What causes hives and what can we do about them?

Typically, hives are a surge of histamine or a stress response in the body. It’s your body trying to kick something through the largest organ, the skin. A lot of this boils down to liver function. You can take Antronex, which isn’t an antihistamine, but has a similar effect in draining the liver. In the short term, you can mix a teaspoon to a tablespoon of Calcium Lactate Powder with 20oz of liquid. Anything raised on the body means you’re calcium deficient. If you’re experiencing frequent hives, keep a food journal, because something you’re eating is probably triggering it.

8.- How do you feel about peptides.

They’re great, but you don’t need to take them as an isolate. There’s lots of things on the priority list before that. Eating a whole food diet, intermittent fasting, ketosis reducing inflammation, lowering sugar, getting better sleep are all things that would help before taking peptides.

9.- Should I take Antronex for a sun rash?

Antronex is more for hives, anything inflammatory, or puffiness. Use Calcium Lactate Powder and Cataplex F to help get the calcium into the bloodstream quicker. Also, you can take the Cataplex C here, because regular ascorbic acid won’t really do anything.

10.- How long is the protocol for treating Epstein Barr Virus?

There’s a 90 day starting point, but the key is how you use the four different herbs and pulse dosing them for 90 days. EBV is an intelligent stealth pathogen, so what we need to do is inhibit it from doing anything and stay Vitamin C and Zinc strong. Some people just need 90 days once a year, some do 90 days on and 30 days off and repeat.

11.- Why do I have food cravings when I don’t sleep well?

Those are really sugar and carb cravings. Your body needs energy and when it asks your brain where it can find some, the brain goes through its rolodex to the places it has found the most accessible energy, sugar carbs and caffeine. That’s why it’s important to train the brain to burn those fats and why it’s important to take more timeouts in life. Healthy sleep is a key component to your overall health and wellness.

12.- Why do some healthy people still get sick?

First, we can’t always judge a book by its cover to determine if someone is “healthy” or not. If we’re only looking at a person’s weight and whether they jog in the morning, we’re not getting a full picture. Some people go right from their morning jog to a fast food, processed Starbucks feast. Look at the labs and the deep dives if you want a full story. Further, you’re not unhealthy if you have symptoms, they’re not bad or good, they’re just your body’s method of communication. If you’re healthy and something toxic enters your body, your body is going to be a lot more expressive about it.

Secondly, the world is awfully scary right now and anxiety is going to make things much worse, even for physically healthy people. The focus on the fear is always going to exacerbate whatever is going on both physically and emotionally. On the CDC website, the two leading comorbidities on Covid deaths are obesity and anxiety. We have to become people who connect and not divide, show grace in all circumstances and protect our energy.  Our emotional and mental health will greatly inform our physical and immune health.

13.- Can you get covid from vaccinated people?

Yes. However, when people talk about “shedding” and the fear of contracting Covid that way, I’m not sure that applies to this particular vaccine situation. Time is our greatest ally. The typical data gathering time is 5-7 years, so we’re still in the very early stages of fully understanding everything we need to know about the virus, the vaccine, and other treatments.

This week’s Level Up Action to become Superhuman:

Become an observer of your energy. Stop and take a gut check. Wherever your energy goes is where your concentration goes. If your energy were teaching your children, parents, spouse, friends or other family how to live, would it be a good lesson? The more we can adjust our focus and put our energy into positive, creative, uplifting things, the more we can protect our mind and our body.
