My Biggest Health Hacks at 53 Years Old! | Episode 127

by | Nov 10, 2022 | The Health Made Simple Show

Human beings today are some of the unhealthiest we have ever collectively been.

But how have we gotten here?

In today’s society, we face countless vices that pull us further and further away from the healthiest version of ourselves. But the good news is, with intentional mindfulness we can overcome the challenges and experience health and vitality for many years to come.

Becoming superhuman comes down to three main pillars. We need to get back to basics and align how we move, think and eat. When we shift our foundational habits and beliefs, we can achieve more that we ever could have thought possible.

Watch the live show below:

On this week’s episode of the Health Made Simple show, Dr. Bart discusses the common mistakes and triggers that almost everyone makes that prevent us from becoming superhuman:

How we think:

1. Have a strategy and stick to it. Transformation requires goals and a strategic (quantifiable) plan that you are committed to sticking to. Whether it is an ideal weight, an exercise rep goal, or a better test result, have a number and a timeframe in mind to keep yourself on track.

2. Have an accountability buddy. Your actions need to match your goals, and oftentimes it’s not easy. You need to have friends, coaches, mentors, online groups, doctors, etc that are rooting for you and your goals and will speak up if you get off track.

3. Have a morning ritual that starts your day as positively as possible. Doctors have become increasingly inclined to medicate our emotions away. But numbing the emotions we don’t want to feel won’t do you any favors. Finding ways to cope with the emotions and events in life is a much more effective way to set yourself up for success.

How we move:

1. Thanks to technology, commuting, and desk jobs humans have become way too sedentary. The average person is now sitting from 6-8 hours per day. Moving the body promotes flexibility, mobility, and optimal blood pressure and circulation. Sitting too much moves us further and further in the wrong direction, promoting preventable disease.

2. Weak muscles will never equal a healthy body. We need to regularly incorporate strength and mobility training consistently into our routines in order to retain strength even as we get older. It is also extremely important to give your body ample time to rest and recover as well, to avoid burnout and damage from overtraining. Thanks to common gym stereotypes, as a general rule, women should focus on strength training exercises, and men on yoga and other mobility-based workouts.

What we eat:

1. Become aware of the toxins you’re consuming, and make every effort to eliminate them. Your body is designed to function in defense mode, but consuming toxins forces it to take offense. When it is too busy with toxin elimination, our bodies don’t have the capacity to perform necessary offensive healing. The top dangerous toxins to avoid are:

  • Alcohol (drastically inhibits critical liver function).
  • Non-organic foods (glyphosate, pesticides, etc consumption automatically sends your body into permanent defense mode). Eating organic/ whole foods grown naturally is the best general rule to avoid consuming these harmful substances.
  • Gluten (the compounding consumption of gluten over time causes compounding damage in our bodies). Wheat products have been containing more and more gluten over time, which does increasingly more damage to our bodies.

These are all pieces of advice Dr. Bart gives to real people in his clinic every week. On this week’s episode of the Health Made Simple Show, you’ll also learn about:

  • The reason a 33 year old male patient that was working out 6-7 times per week but wasn’t seeing any physical progress (and how he turned things around).
  • What is actually happening when you try to outrun a fever (and how this 41 year old patient learned the hard way).
  • The unexpected and avoidable reason your kids are getting sick this fall (that isn’t bacterial OR viral).

By keeping these habits top of mind, you will set yourself up for a long and healthy life.
