Your home medicine cabinet

Don’t you hate it when a cold creeps up on you when you DON’T have medicine on hand?

Or worse, you cut your hand on a knife and don’t have anything to disinfect it properly?

On this week’s episode of the Health Made Simple Show, I share a list of top herbs and supplements to stock up your home medicine cabinet.

In order to remain healthy and strong, you need to be able to observe what is going on and have preventative tools in your home to nip problems in the bud.

Most people today have things like Advil, Tylenol, Neosporin, or cold medicine in their medicine cabinet to aid common, everyday medical conditions.

First things first: Focus on your breath. Particularly when you are having a moment of anxiety (maybe tightness in the chest), focus on slowing your breathing, and elongating the exhale. Inviting more oxygen into your body is a key tool to calm your nervous system.

Next, you need to have a natural toolkit on hand to support:

  • Anti-fungal healing
  • Headache/ general pain
  • Throat/ mucosal lining
  • Allergies
  • Burns/ cuts
  • Bellyache/ digestive discomfort

Quick Action at the First Sign:

The moment you feel that first “I think I’m getting sick” moment, you need the Andrographis ComplexPowerful adaptogen herbs of Holy Basil, Echinacea, and Andrographis; take 2-3x a day at the first sign of feeling unwell, and continue until symptoms subside.

Congaplex is another combination product that contains calcium, vitamins C and A, and is a great thymus gland support. This is an amazing tool to nip a pesky cold in the bud before it worsens.

Superpowered white blood cell booster; take 4-3x a day at the first sign of feeling unwell, and continue until symptoms subside.

Calcium Lactate Powder is an amazing fever and infection support. Keep it on hand for when your symptoms FIRST begin, and stop taking it when you start to feel better.

Allergies:

Antronex: When seasonal allergies strike – stuffiness, congestion in the morning – take 4 in the morning for an antihistamine effect. Antronex is a beef liver extract that helps the liver drain, appropriate for seasonal allergies, allergic responses to ant bites – can even help your pups! Nice natural way to approach histamine responses.

Burns and cuts:

Chlorophyll Complex Ointment Plant blood for abrasions – think cuts and scrapes! This ointment is potent and VERY green – apply directly to cut, and use a bandage as this will stain. Decreases pain and potential scar tissue – best all natural anti-infection tool.

Fevers:

Calcium Lactate Powder: Have a fever? Take a scoop of this, mix it into water or liquid of your choice, and sip it on down. Great for kids! Calcium will soften the pain of a fever, while allowing the body to proceed through its natural healing processes.

Gut Issues:

Have you ever had gut pain before? Gastrex: Your go-to for all digestive discomfort soothes and heals! Take 4 and observe how you feel, usually, one dose will ease discomfort

Protect the throat:

If you constantly have a dry throat (you talk a lot for work, environmental factors, etc), chances are you do not have adequate mucous production (which ultimately negatively affects your immune system).

The solution to your problem is Herbal Throat Spray: Herbs to soothe mucous membranes in the throat, including Marshmallow Root and Echinacea to stimulate healing. Great for those who speak a lot (instructors, educators, practitioners), superb for travel (counteract stale air in airplanes, hotels, etc), softens cough and eases throat discomfort.

Nerve Pain:

If you are experiencing nerve pain, try Nervagesic. The herbs in this tonic downregulates the nervous system, consequently decreasing pain levels.

Time to live pain-free:

Ironically, the vitamin and mineral supplements you see on the shelves today are held to a higher standard, and have less side effects than almost every pharmaceutical drug. Just because herbal medicine has taken a backseat in recent Western culture, does not mean it is any less effective.

By keeping these herbs, and supplements on-hand, your body will reward you.
