Q&A: How to deal with Fatty Liver, Deep Sleep, Indigestion, and more! | Episode 56

by | Jun 17, 2021 | The Health Made Simple Show

Due to the large number of questions that we get every week, we’re doing another Q&A.

Thanks for all your questions! When I’m in practice, everything is on the table. Health is everything. While my labels are a chiropractor and an acupuncturist, the truth is that I’m a healthcare facilitator.

I approach health from a holistic and functional stance meaning that I examine everything. Your body, your lifestyle, your emotions, your relationships, and your environment all impact your health.

Anything is on the table for this Q&A.

As a reminder, this is advice and my perspective. If you want to work with me as a patient, we do online appointments.

In case you missed it…

Dr. Bart Answers….

Fatty Liver Disease, is that something you can heal?

The quick answer here is YES you can heal it. I will lay out the specifics but I would give you a strategy that can change your life if you follow it.

Most important, right from the beginning, it’s a journey of always improving it. And the beauty of the liver is that the liver is the most restorative organ in the human body. It’s also the most important organ that we have in our body when it comes to vitality. So if you are diagnosed with fatty liver disease:

1. Stop putting toxins in it. No alcohol, GMO’s, all processed food. We have to get the junk out.

2. We have to fix the insulin issue. We have to fix the carbohydrate issue, the diet. One of my favorite strategies is intermediate fasting. It gives a time out for your liver so your body can regenerate and reprocess many of the enzymes.

3. Then we have to repair it. That means we got to feed the liver well. Often eating liver helps (like fixes like). But most important is Milk thistle.

Milk thistle will be your primary everyday go-to. It’s an herb that also is friendly to everything else, like medication or whatever the person is on. It not only detoxes the liver but it helps the liver to repair itself.

There is another one called choline. Choline you can get from egg yolks, which is also really good for babies, but if you have fatty liver disease, you should supplement it. No doubt about it. At least for 120 days.

You will see lab chances 90 to 120 days, but that doesn’t mean you are done. To really heal up fat liver disease, you will need a year minimum but probably 2 to 5 years.
Also, don’t be scared of healthy fats. The liver will need these. Like bulletproof coffee and MCT oils or coconut oil as well.

Is there a minimum time between lunch and dinner? I heard to try to get 4 hours in between each meal

There is no minimum time. The bigger question is: Are you listening to your body? When it comes to meals, we came up with the idea of breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks in between. But always just listen to your body. Are you hungry? This is why I really like always to have some level of intermediate fasting. Like a 12 hour break from any food but do not schedule out your eating.

You got the get to the point where you get really intuitive with your body and listen. But I can only recommend that when you are clean.

Sometimes I have been told that I snore on occasion. I am fairly healthy. Should I get a sleep apnea test? Is that truly valid to predict heart health?

Snoring is the direct result of inflammation. A sleep apnea test will just tell you if you are having a sleeping issue. We need to be clean to prevent inflammation. And as we age, we have to do more than we have ever done in our life.

Try to go to the root cause. If you are occasional snoring, no big deal. You might get an occasional ice cream night or worked too long that you are exhausted and your body is in an inflamed state and that are the nights you snore. Inflammation is the number one reason why we have heart disease. So there is a correlation but not causation.

How many times a day can you or should you exercise? I am splitting up my situps and pushups to 3 times a day.

If you like splitting up, that’s awesome! I love the idea of breaking it but because it is more realistic to daily life! You also move to different times during your day to get the shopping bags out of the car or pick up your kid, for example.

Do you have any protocols or supplements to obtain deep sleep for a near 60-year-old men?

We have different types of sleep, we have light sleep, deep sleep and rem sleep and we need all three. Rem sleep is typically recovery of our mind and our brain and our memory and creativity. Deep sleep is typically the recovery of the body. And deep sleep as we age starts to go down. If you are getting about an hour or an hour and a half of rem or deep sleep in an 8-hour sleep, that is great!

You are retraining your body to get that deep sleep back. You will need time on this one. At least 3 months minimum and see if your deep sleep boosts up.

The way we do that is a little different than you might think. We are preparing the body during the day to have more vitality. There are some very specific herbs that are used for vitality.

One is Korean Ginseng. It might be the most expensive one I use, yet if you get the high-quality one, it is very good for boosting testosterone and performance for athletes. That’s something you will take during the day.

The other one is Rhodiola. It is not used very often. You can get the combination of Rhodiola Ginseng. You will use a little during the morning and maybe midafternoon as long as the sleeping pattern is there. If the sleep pattern is not there, forget everything I said and now we just going to focus on the sleep pattern.

What are your thoughts on branched-chain amino acids in your smoothies?

I’m not the biggest fan. A good protein powder, yes. If I think about what to put into my smoothie, these are not in my top 5.

I want to buy a PVC mask that’s the size of my kitchen table, to protect it. We are going to eat all our meals on it. Do I have to worry about any off-gassing of the PVC? Is it toxic?

In the beginning, yes, it is very toxic. And you can smell it. So if you smell it, it is toxic. But that will wear off over time. If you have the possibility of airing it out for a few days before putting it on the table, that will help.

When does your next Cleanse start?

The summer Cleanse is coming up, which we launch on June 21. And it is not a starvation diet. Yes, it is a plant-based diet. We will leave the animal protein out for a little bit.

We are cleaning up and rehabbing the system again. Get everything back on board. Your liver, your digestive system and allow your body to be a metabolizing machine. 10 days. I’m excited! We go live on Monday and the following as well. We will be supporting each other and sharing fun stories. But make sure you register soon so we can ship you out your supplements.

I have been getting indigestion. Have you got any tips for me?

Indigestion is a little bit different for everybody. For some people, it means burping. For others, it can be heartburn.
If you get bloating and burping, that’s involving the gallbladder. It is very fixable.

I use something called A-F Beta food. I will do 9 of those a day for 30 days and almost always, it will help.
Heartburn is really common. More often than not, you get it because you lack the proper amount of HCL. Your stomach is too weak.
    Very common is diarrhea
as well. When food seems to go right through you. When that happens, you usually have a hard time breaking down fats.

It is necessary to get rid of bad fats! No gluten, no GMO’s, no canola oil. So if your body is getting that bad oil out of your system by needing to go to the toilet pretty fast, that is actually a good sign.

Is it good to get a functional diagnostic test as a preventative measure? Or is it good to do a periodic cellular cleanse? I am already intermediate fasting.

I would say do one-time heavy metals, one-time Urinalysis and a functional gut check. Test them individually and if you find heavy metal, get rid of them and test until they are gone. So for the first question, my answer is no, you don’t need all these tests. To the second question, the answer is yes.

The cellular detox with a binder is very very healthy! Even if you have a phenomenal lifestyle, you should do some kind of Cleanse once a year for 20, 30 days.

Can you give us an update on any new data about the vaccine?

I’ve said from day one when it comes to the vaccine: Pause! When I say pause, I say it because we don’t have science. There is no science about what the vaccine does to the human body over time. There is a lot of distraction about this topic. I don’t see the importance of rushing out and getting the vaccine even if you are at high risk. More so! The vaccines we use here are still in emergency usage. What I suspect is that in the future, they will come with a warning label. And in that warning label, it is gonna say some stuff.
Pause! At some point we just have to pause and not get distracted by free beer and free donuts. And I am not an anti-vaccine but a pro-health. We have to wait because we don’t know what happens in a year or two. Just wait for more data, and when they have that data we can make an educated decision.

To do it because of a non-health-related decision like traveling, that’s a distraction. Health decisions have to be about health and nothing else. If you want the shot because of health reasons, that’s awesome! Everyone makes different decisions and that needs to be respected.

What is one action that we can take today after this episode to move us toward becoming superhuman?

Think about your decision-making. Ask yourself if it is emotional or are you using strategy? And this should go with all our decision-making. When we are emotional is rare that we make the best option. It doesn’t matter if it is about food or Cleanses or the next beer or the vaccine, whatever. Think about it a little bit and make your best decision that allows you to level yourself up.
