Dr. Bart Answers…

What sport was Kelly in the Olympics?

She was in field hockey. I met her 1996 when she played the Atlantic games. I just finished my studies, and at that time I was waiting tables. And their team would come in, and that’s where we met, in that restaurant. She was on the team for about 10 years.

Haemorrhoids. Is there anything I can do for them?

Absolutely! There is something very specific called chlorophyll ointment. Apply it directly on it two times a day. It will calm it down so then I can heal up. That’s if you have a bleeding one.

If not, than there are two different herbs: horse chestnut and butcher’s broom.
A little side note: If you know that your haemorrhoids are being caused by straining, add A-F Betafood and Magnesium.

Is there anything that we can do for arthritis in the hip?

Most of the time when people ask that question, they are asking about a type of arthritis called osteoarthritis, which means an inflammation of the bone and joint. So we want to decrease inflammation.

Number one: you have to get rid of the carbs and sugar and the junk. We have to get back to God’s Garden. Also, moving the hip is important, so a little Yoga in your life would be awesome.

There are two supplements that are a must: some type of fish oil, my favourite is cod liver fish oil. But most important is tumeric. The one we use that I absolutely love is called turmeric forte. Arthritis is an ongoing process which means get it clean and keep it clean.

Are PMS symptoms normal?

No, they are not normal. It means there is something abnormal going on in the system. PMS is an estrogen dominance issue. Either you have too much estrogen relative to your progesterone, or you can have too little progesterone. Then we have symptoms like excessive bleeding, spotting, cramping, mood changes, depression, breast tenderness.

All of those are part of PMS, and none of them is normal. Your body is talking to you and saying that something is going on here.

What can we do? You need to get some level of iodine into your body. Iodine helps balance estrogen. We should always take just a little bit at a time and get the body used to it.

Also, the number 1 herb for all menstruating people is chaste tree. It helps you naturally increase your progesterone levels. If there is heavy cramping and excessive bleeding, I would add something called Ovax. It is a very specific supplement, and it is for ovarian support. Also, Magnesium is very important for women.

Also, what I really want to mention is that PMS is never a reason to put young girls on the pill. This will just barry the monster but not really cure anything. We put so many girls on it, thinking there are no side effects. But there are. Serious ones.

Can I fast if I have hyperthyroidism?

Yes, you can. Hyperthyroidism almost always includes also an adrenal issue. And if a person with hyperthyroidism and adrenal issue start fasting 16 hours form one day to the other, that can really stress the body out.

But the body has to become adaptive. Becoming adaptive is key when it comes to fasting. So we should start 12 hours. Do that for like two weeks and then level up a little to about 14 hours. We have to work ourselves up step by step. For women, 14 to 16 hours is about ideal. And remember, fasting is not a starvation diet.

To come back to the question: Yes, you can fast with hyperthyroidism. Every time we fast, we kill off weak cells. Then we get to rebuild the body with new cells, including thyroid cells, and we will make a stronger thyroid. But we do want to be mindful. If you have an adrenal issue, longer fasts are not suggested.

Is there a place for counting calories?

I don’t want to say no here, but the number 1 is you have to eat from God’s Garden. If you are not eating from God’s Garden, don’t count calories. If you eat 1000 calories from broccoli, it’s not the same then a 1000 calories from a snickers bar. You do not have the same results.
If you are curious and you eat from God’s Garden, then why not. But God’s Garden need to be the foundation.

Also important is our carbohydrates intake. Because they convert into sugar. I would recommend having an eye on these instead of focusing too much on calories.

Are there any suggestions you have to optimize my health while being pregnant? There are lots of confusing information out there.

A lot of times, I try to be a coach for women who are pregnant and ‘unscare’ them. You get all this information about what you can’t do and what you have to watch out for. You have to go with the flow and listen to your body.

But there are some things with our diet that we want to level up a little bit. Number one on the list here is fatty acids like your fish oil. Good for the skin, body, hair and brain for you and your baby’s.
Also very important are trace minerals. You and your baby need trace minerals. I often encourage my moms to take some extra choline. A great food source for choline is egg yolks. Choline is a B Vitamine, and it is also fantastic for the baby’s brain, and it helps the mom’s liver.

The morning sickness is a detox phase for the mom to get rid of toxins in the body. So the mom can become a vessel for life. This means your liver needs support. Choline is amazing for that. Folic acid is usually also an important one.

But the number one advice I would give a woman who wants to get pregnant or just found out she’s pregnant: Get clean and keep it clean! Everything that you put in your body, your baby is making cells of.
The othert part is: Don’t be afraid. Your body knows exactly what to do. Trust the process.

What are the benefits of taking NAC?

There are many benefits. The brain is the first thing that comes through my mind. It is not one of the first ones I would recommend, but I know it’s very popular out there.

Most likely, I don’t use it because I can’t find it in a whole food source.

What are your thoughts of long hauler’s from covid?

The explanation that I and some of my colleges for Long Hauler’s have is this: It is not necessary the virus that is damaging but the toxins that are left over after the virus.

The virus enters the body. Your white blood cells fight the virus, and they break down and die. And then they have these toxins leftover in massive amounts. This could attack a particular organ. So you win the battle, but the battlefield is a mess.

The best thing we do about it is to get clean. We go back to God’s Garden and reduce the intake of carbohydrates and sugar so we can really lower the inflammatory process. Start intermittent fasting step by step.

Support the liver with choline, cruciferous vegetables, milk thistle, turmeric and spanish black radish.

What is one action we can take today after this episode?

Remember that the power that makes the body is the power that heals the body. Be a great listener and have faith as well. Get out of your body’s way. It knows what it needs.
