Dr. Bart Answers…

Is there anything I can do about Thyroid nodules?

Yes, absolutely. With Thyroid nodules, we have to recognize that something with our Thyroid is not functioning well. Usually, by the time someone has their Thyroids checked out, they already have some lab work done. Unfortunately, most of the time, the labs for Thyroid are not complete enough for us to develop a very accurate strategy in how to get your Thyroid back on board. And we want our Thyroids on board.

They are massively involved in our overall metabolic process. If you have Thyroid nodules, your Throid has a deficiency. Because of that deficiency, you are developing nodules. So we want to look at what’s causing that situation.

The simple answer is that you will want to add iodine to your diet on a regular basis. The clinical answer is to go back with the doctor or someone that is more familiar with Thyroids.

When it comes to Thyroids, there are some very specific nutrients we need. One is iodine, and that’s probably the most efficient one. Selenium and Magnesium is also a very important one for Thyroids. What many people have to understand is that almost any Thyroid case has a secondary if not a primary cause. These are the adrenal glands, the liver and/or your gut. In my experience, at least two of them are involved.

Also, we have to be smart and look at the big picture. The two top deficiency caused by Thyroid medication is iron and calcium. These two are very important. So we are taking medication for one thing, and it is actually causing other issues.

Can I take too much collagen? I am taking one spoon in the morning and one at night, but I want to add one to my lunch.

It’s very difficult to do too much, so no big deal with a couple of scoops a day. My favourite is the Multi Collagen from ancient nutrition.

What can I do to get off my blood pressure medication?

One of the primary reasons why we have high blood pressure is that a deficiency is taking place. Your body will increase the amount of blood pressure to circulate more nutrients, hormones, oxygen etc., to the body that needs them. So the more stress we are under, we need more nutrients and not less.

If we have diets that are deficient in nutrients, high levels of stress, a lot of chemicals and sugar, the heart has to work harder. So what do we really want to do? We want to give the heart the opportunity to relax.

Number one: We want to become a better sleeper.
Number two is a good electrolyte balance. We need a healthy lifestyle and diet. The key here is so often is God’s Garden.

I also want to recommend two supplements that are very effective. One is called Cardio plus, which supports all the nutrients that the heart might need. In some high blood pressure cases, especially when they are caused by a good amount of stress, I will give them Cataplex G. That will give you a fast reaction and let your vessels dilate.

What exercises can you do on a vibration plate?

Really anything, and their benefits are massive. You can just stand on it, and because our feet have the second-highest amount of nerve input, you literally bombarding your brain with neural input. It’s like lightening up a Christmas tree.

You can go on blank position on it with your elbows or hand or flip over and go on it with your feet. If you are standing on it, you can balance on one foot and then try the other.

I have started taking some antioxidant supplements and want to know if you can take too many.

The answer is yes, we can take too much, but here is the important part of this answer: If you are using whole food supplements, it is very difficult to do anything wrong, even if it comes to antioxidants.

The primary antioxidant in the body is Vitamin A, C, E. With A and E we have to be careful on how we get these types of antioxidants. You do not want synthetic sources because the body still doesn’t know how to process those.

I love Cod Liver Oil because Vitamine A and D come together.
So you can take too much, but if you follow the doses on the bottle, it’s super safe. Most importantly for any supplementation is that they are coming from a whole food source.

I am just getting over a horrible case of covid. I developed pneumonia and had every symptom, but the worst is migraines. I am very healthy otherwise. Is there something that can help with these headaches?

I have heard of a lot of cases like this. The symptoms afterwards have often been much worse than the actual virus, and this is a clearing issue.

Make sure you take high amounts of Magnesium. In this case, I would recommend Magnesium Lactate. Start with 3 at night and 1 in the morning, and then level up to where you probably will get to 5 or 6 at night. Be aware that it will create a fair amount of stool. Also, take plenty of DHA, which are your fish oils.

We do everything we can to flush the system out, which kind of works from the bottom up so your brain will be the last.

We need to clear out the liver and use some milk thistle for that. Intermittent fasting right now is important so we can downregulate the inflammation in the body.

Also, super strong doses of Turmeric will help. I like the Turmeric Forte and take 6 of those a day. Make sure all your electrolytes are balanced.

What are your top fat-burning tips?

Here are my top five tips:

1. You have to become fat adaptive and use fat for fuel. That means reducing the carbohydrate intake because otherwise, your body will use that as a fuel source.

2.
No gluten. It’s proinflammatory.

3.
Intermittent fasting. And don’t use it as a starvation diet because it will backfire on you.

4.
Exercise on an empty stomach

5.
Sleep! Your metabolic system is most active at night.

I have a nephew who is 17. He began having seizures at 12. Any diet or supplements that might be beneficial? He is currently on medication but will still have a seizure every 5 to 6 months.

Yes! Intermittent fasting and a ketogenic diet. The medication will downregulate but not fix the seizures. You can’t let seizures happen because it is dangerous, so I understand why people go on medication, but there are definitely alternatives.

Also, with that age, it is very likely that their diet is 85% carbohydrates, so that’s a good place to start. So that is a family conversation, but yes, there is a protocol for this that helped already a lot of people.

What is a good supplement for helping memory?

Number one is God’s Garden. We need to reduce sugar and carbohydrates. Sugar literally shrinks the brain. Also, if we don’t sleep well, our body shifts into this fight or flight mode, and stuff that is not important for survival we forget.
For supplements, I can really recommend Bacopa and Ginkgo. They are absolutely phenomenal.

What is a good supplement to help me sleep?

No gluten, carbs and sugar. Reduce the phone and computer dosage before going to bed. My favourite for calming the body down is Magnesium. Also, Tumeric and fish oil are great. Reducing the amount of alcohol we are consuming. For falling asleep, I like to recommend a herb called Kava.

I had increased arthritis in my hip over the last year, and I am looking into stem cell injections instead of a hip replacement. What is your opinion on stem cells?

I love the science that is coming out about it. I think the reason it’s not going through the roof and the results are about 50/50 is because we are not tying in the nutrition component here. We need to be clean; otherwise it is probably a waste of money.

Why do I crave tomatoes?

Hm. Maybe you lack a bit of Vitamin A. But usually, I say listen to your body and go for it but don’t overdo it and make sure you are not getting watery eyes and runny nose, and your body feels good afterwards.

What is one action we can take today after this episode?

Continue to go for more and have fun with the journey. I will never tell people to not do something (except for gluten) but do what it takes so you can do it in a healthy fashion.
