Raising a Holistic Dog | Episode 152
Welcome to this week’s episode of the Health Made Simple Show, where we have a special guest, Kelli Precourt, to discuss a topic that affects over 65 million Americans: raising a dog on a holistic lifestyle.
As a natural health practitioner who loves dogs, I understand the importance of ensuring everyone in my home lives a healthy life, including my 9 furry friends.
But how can we ensure our pets are living their healthiest lives when we don’t speak the same language?

Dogs Aren’t So Different…
Over my 20 years of experience, I’ve observed some striking similarities between human and canine health, which we’ll explore in this episode.
By evaluating a dog’s movement, thinking, and eating, we can obtain a holistic overview of their health. Analyzing every element of your dog’s behavior is key to advocating for them effectively.
Moving & Eating Holistically
Dogs are wired to be active and constantly on alert, so a lack of exercise can lead to behavioral issues. A fenced backyard alone isn’t enough; dogs need external stimuli and exploration in their daily lives to thrive. To keep your dog healthy, invest at least 20 minutes of exercise per day, twice daily.
Just like humans, dogs can suffer from the negative effects of processed food. Many dry kibbles contain byproducts, fillers, and unregulated preservatives to increase shelf life and profits. Symptoms that indicate a dog needs a diet change include constant itching, frequent paw and ear licking, excessive pooping, and unresolved behavioral problems.
A raw meat diet is ideal for dogs, providing healthy digestive enzymes, proteins, and fats, while avoiding harmful ingredients. If feeding 100% raw isn’t feasible, add egg, kefir, sardines, or cooked ground meat to the top of their dry kibble.
Raising a Holistic Dog
Want to introduce some healthier habits to ensure your furry friend is around for many years to come? Here are our top tips for raising a holistic dog:
- Avoid over-vaccinating and consider running an antibody blood test instead of annual vaccine boosters.
- Soothe itchy paws or ears with Epsom or green tea soaks and supplement with Allerplex, a safe allergy-defending supplement for dogs.
- Consider adding Canine Immune System Support, a daily supplement, to help fend off unwanted illnesses.
- Use Echinacea, a herbal supplement safe for dogs, to support a healthy immune system. Medium-sized dogs should take ½ a tablet daily, and smaller dogs ⅓ of a tablet daily.
By adopting proactive habits today, we can prevent expensive vet visits in the future. Consider introducing a holistic approach to your furry friend’s health today!
