Raising Testosterone Naturally! | Episode 123
Special guest David Hogsed (DOM, AP) joins the Health Made Simple Show to talk about one of the most important hormones of all: testosterone. His practice located in Fort Myers, Florida, specializes in providing nutritional support for endocrine, digestion, musculoskeletal, and immune system health.
Watch the live show below:
What’s so important about testosterone?
For a hormone that affects so many different processes within the body, a dangerously large portion of the population suffer from low testerone. Significantly impacting men, this hormone is responsible for:
- Overall sexual health and male fertility.
- Stress hormone regulation and adrenal support.
- Regulating weight and metabolism.
Testosterone is produced both in the adrenal glands as well as the male testicles. It’s common (especially as you age) for testosterone levels to be evaluated by your medical doctor on a regular basis. The bad news is that what our medical system today deems as “acceptable” today is significantly lower than what our body really needs. Because of this, many men are silently suffering with the byproduct symptoms of a testerone balance and not even realize it.
Are you at risk of developing low testosterone levels?
If you:
- Routinely experience a low sex drive, and/ or have experienced fertility issues in the past.
- Have consumed at least one round antidepressant, acid blocking, or statin drugs recently.
- Are regularly exposed to higher amounts of stress (personal, professional, etc).
- Do not receive at least 6-7 hours of sleep per night.
Then you are currently at risk of (or are already experiencing) low testosterone levels. There are many things you can do however to support the healing process. One of the most powerful tools available to support testosterone production is Tongkat Ali.
What happens when our testosterone levels are too low?
When your testosterone levels are chronically low, chances are you are under a lot of stress.
This can lead to:
Adrenal Fatigue:
If your adrenal glands are constantly fatigued because of heightened stress hormones (aka cortisol), this will disrupt much other hormone production as well.
Fertility Challenges:
Now in 2022, 50% of couples experience fertility problems are a result of male infertility. Low testosterone negatively affects sperm production and motility.
Vitamin Deficiencies:
Our bodies rely on vitamins to keep our bodies running. Low testosterone typically indicates a vitamin deficiency, particularly vitamins E and D, essential fatty acids, and zinc.
The Testerone Miracle: Tongkat Ali
Tongkat Ali is a bitter Malaysian herb root which has recently increased in availability in Western medicine. When taken regularly by Malaysian tribes, it originally demonstrated the best results in older men. Science would later confirm that as their testosterone production was naturally declining with age, the herb was supporting testosterone production and stress hormone regulation. Not only that, but Tongkat ali is also known to be an aphrodisiac.
Most effective in males, an average effective dose is only 200 mg per day (or 2 tablets today), which is better for men (who are known to habitually take less supplements). Results will typically take about one month to reflect on lab work.
Want the secret recipe to support your testosterone levels naturally?
There are a number of herbal supplements and lifestyle suggestions that will greatly impact testosterone production:
Herbal Supplements:
- Tongkat Ali (2 tablets/ day)
- Tribulus
- Ashwagandha Forte (3 tablets/ day)
- Korean Ginseng or Rhodiola Ginseng Complex (3 tablets/ day)
- Symplex M (4 tablets twice daily)
- Wheat Germ Oil (6 softgels per day)
- Zinc Chelate
Lifestyle:
- Prioritize your sleep. Turn off the screens well before bedtime and give yourself time to decompress.
- Intermittent fasting (at least 12-14 hours per day). You will overcome the constant need for carbs, and learn how to burn fat for fuel.
- Hot and cold therapies (eg ice tanks) will naturally raise testosterone levels with regular use over time.
- Exercise regularly.
